I knew about rune words and stuff, but didn't understand much of the mechanics or how to synergize. I picked up d2 shortly after it's release and loved it, but was terrible at it for at least a decade. Replayability is what makes a game go down as not just good, but *great.*ĭ2 is incredible and having D2R with 4k is such a blessing. D4 may be good for the casual player but I doubt it can ever match what D2R has going right now in terms of replayability. I'll play D4 a little longer but I can already feel the pull of D2R again. The mini map is confusing and was chosen in place of an overlay. The narrow paths vs open areas make traveling feel slow and claustrophobic with constant dead ends/wrong turns. Everything feels slower and less dynamic because of cool downs. There is no slot machine feeling of "just one more run." My D4 character has felt the same meh level of power my entire play through.īlizzard chose to ignore the brilliance of the D2 gear system in favor of something more like D3 (objectively inferior imo.) The zoom is too close. After playing through Diablo 4 I realize it is sorely lacking in a lot of what made D2 so much fun (even vanilla D2!) D2 really stuck the dismount and I wonder if its magic can ever be recreated.
